Choosing English or French for your account, and why it is not set per person or by your browser

Section: app. Audience: public. Updated: 2026-09-27.

Horizon is available in English and French.

## Changing it

Two places do the same thing.

The quickest is the **"Language"** control in the top bar, which lists **"English"** and **"Français"** and marks the one in use.

The same choice is in **"Settings"**, under **"Language & region"**, as **"Language"**. It applies at once, without the save bar. Until September 2026 the profile had a copy of it too.

They are one setting with two doors, not two settings. Changing it in one changes it in the other.

## Time zone and formats

**"Language & region"** also holds your **"Timezone"**, **"Date format"** and **"Time format"**, which dates and times across the app follow once saved, and the account's country, units and **"Currency"**. They save with the save bar. Until September 2026 the date and time formats there were never saved; now they are.

## It is an account setting

This is the part that surprises people. **The language belongs to the account, not to the person and not to the browser.**

So changing it changes the language for everyone working in that account, not just for you. If a colleague asks why the app switched to French, this is why.

It is also not detected from your browser once you are signed in. A French browser does not put a signed-in English account into French.

## Before you sign in

The sign-in screen is the exception, and necessarily so: there is no account yet to take a language from. That screen picks a language from what you last used in that browser, falling back to your browser's own language.

That is a separate mechanism from the account setting, and it is why the sign-in page can be in one language and the app in another. Nothing is wrong when that happens.

## What is translated

The interface is translated. Your own data is not: product names, addresses and notes read as you entered them.

The privacy policy and terms are maintained as whole documents in each language rather than assembled phrase by phrase, so the French text reads as French rather than as translated English.

## If something is untranslated

A missing French phrase falls back to English rather than showing a blank or a key. If you see English inside an otherwise French screen, that is a gap in the catalogue. Report it through [Help and support](/app/help-and-support).
